Key decisions
- Radome or open array: enclosed radomes suit many center consoles and cruising boats; open arrays can provide greater antenna performance where space and structure allow.
- Range and target separation: evaluate close-range detail as well as maximum advertised range.
- Display compatibility: confirm the exact chartplotter series, software and network connection supported by the radar.
- Power and mounting: account for cable routing, breaker protection, mounting hardware, clearances and manufacturer-specified safe distances.
Plan the navigation system
Features such as Doppler target highlighting, bird mode, dual-range viewing and MARPA vary by model and may depend on additional heading or speed data. Review related AIS systems, instruments and network components before ordering.
