Marine Navigation & Instruments

Build a Marine Navigation System That Works Together

Shop marine navigation equipment and instruments for route planning, vessel data, sonar, radar, autopilot, and situational awareness. Start with the boat, operating area, display location, existing equipment, and the decisions you need the system to support.

What to Confirm Before Ordering

  • Display and controls: Check screen size, dash cutout, mounting clearance, sunlight visibility, and whether touch, keypad, or hybrid control fits the helm.
  • Charts and region: Confirm the included chart coverage, update method, and compatibility with the waters you operate in.
  • Sonar and transducer: Match connector, frequency, sonar technology, mounting style, hull material, deadrise, depth, and speed requirements.
  • Networking: Verify NMEA 2000, NMEA 0183, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and brand-specific ports across every device.
  • Power and installation: Review voltage, current draw, breaker or fuse size, cable routing, waterproofing, grounding, and installation instructions.

Plan the Complete Onboard System

A chartplotter or instrument rarely works alone. Plan charts, sensors, transducers, antennas, network backbones, cables, mounts, and software together. Related equipment is available in Marine Cartography, Marine Communication, Marine Electrical, and Marine Safety.

Compatibility can depend on exact model numbers, connector generations, software versions, and included accessories. Do not assume two products work together because they share a brand or network name. Follow manufacturer documentation and use a qualified marine electronics installer for safety-critical, high-current, radar, autopilot, or through-hull work.

Marine Navigation Buying Questions

Can I mix marine-electronics brands?

Sometimes. Standard networks can share certain data, but sonar, radar, charts, autopilot functions, and advanced features may require specific brands, interfaces, or software. Verify each function you expect to use.

What information should I provide for compatibility help?

Provide the boat type and year, operating area, exact existing model numbers, transducer or sensor model, network type, available helm space, power system, and the features you want.

What else may be required?

Depending on the system, you may need charts, a transducer, mounting hardware, power and network cables, a NMEA 2000 starter kit, heading sensor, antenna, interface module, or professional calibration.
